Report on Fire that Killed 9 South Carolina Firefighters Delayed

Charleston, S.C. officials say the release of a report investigating the deaths of nine firefighters in a furniture store blaze has been indefinitely delayed.

A panel of experts compiling the report hoped to deliver it to the city during the week of May 5, but Mayor Joseph P. Riley Junior says the group now wants to wait for at least two federal agencies to complete their own probes.

The experts are reviewing all facets of the fire, from what started the blaze at the Sofa Super Store in June 2007, to why the fire spread so quickly, to what led to the deaths of nine firefighters trapped inside.

No time was given for when the report might be released.
