The sick thing is – the tobacco companies won on appeal, but still don’t get their money back. They posted the millions as a bond and agreed to release the money regardless of the outcome of the appeal. It sickens me that they won’t get their money back now they’ve won.

I’m a smoker, and this kind of thing just makes me sick! I knew full well the dangers of smoking, as I’m sure all 50,000 of these people did, when I started smoking. If I get cancer, you can bet your bottom dollar I won’t be looking to sue. I wonder why alcoholics who get cerosis of the liver don’t sue Jim Beam??

Too bad the Florida Supreme Court didn’t do the “right thing” and completely throw out this bogus lawsuit. Sorry but the smokers choose to smoke and the dangers of smoking have been documented for hundreds of years. I have no sympathy for them and the certainly don’t deserve any money for their own stupidity. Oh, I was a smoker for 15 years and quit 10 years ago.

Smoker….your honesty and objective perspective is refreshing and appreciated. I too am sickened by those who “belly up to the trough” to grab some money over something they have no right to.

Assuming $800M (could be more)and 50,000 claimants, each would get $11,640.

“the Rosenblatts be paid $218 million”

    Where’s the justice in this?

Gee, even though I kicked my 2 pack a day habit, maybe I can cash in some how, after all look at all the weight I’ve gained since I stopped smoking. It’s the cigarette company’s fault that I gained weight, they didn’t tell me if I stopped smoking I’d get fat!!

How many Millions do you think it’s worth? Think I’ll start a class suit. I’m sure I could find a few thousand people to join me. And of course, a willing law firm!

They chose to smoke and at times even acted disrespectful to others who did not smok. Many of their attitudes were they had a right to smoke and if we didnot like it tuff! They chose to smoke no one made them, now they are sick and many non-smokers are sick because of them. They should get nothing! All the money should be placed in funds to treat the sick and help eliminate the finicial burden these smokers brought to the public in general! The lawyers pay should be reduced to a reasonable amount as well!

This has to be one of the craziest lawsuits ever. My mom died when I was 23 from lung cancer, can I claim that for the 30 years she smoked she was misled and get her share of the money? Come on people, what do you think you’re sucking on here, a lollipop? We all know the dangers, they preach it in schools from a young age, so there is no excuse if you choose to smoke and get sick from it.

Just had a thought… now that all those poor Floridians know that smoking is harmful to your health, have they stopped smoking? I bet they spend their portion of the winnings on more cigarettes, not on measures that could help them quit.
