Two years in jail for failing to pull over seems a a little draconian. Maybe the jails could be used for real criminals like murderers and robbers etc.?

Exactly! There was a convicted child molester that moved into my mother’s neighborhood that did less time.

I had a friend that was unaware that the law states that you must slow down and change lanes if at all possible for a police officer who had made a traffic stop. When the officer finished with that ticket he then chased her down and wrote her one. She was shocked at the fine.

You might want to think about the reason for the law. Do you have any idea how many idiots are out there who have no regard for another life? Because my husband is a firefighter, I hear about it first hand. EMS workers and police officers take their lives in their hands as soon as they step out of their vehicle. Just standing on the side of the highway is very dangerous. In a perfect world we wouldn’t need a law to stipulate what should be common sense.

You hit the nail on the head…common sense! How can anyone be “unaware” that you need to get out of the way of an emergency vehicle??? Guess these are the same people that are oblivious to everything else, too.

Please don’t misunderstand. I am all too aware of the idiots on the road. I was not complaining about the law. I was astonished that my friend was unaware.
My complaint is that a rapist or molester serves less time. I think more public information about this matter would be
    very effective.
I ran into a situation recently where an accident happened earlier. Two police cars were beside the road–one on each side of the road. An officer stood by each, talking across the road to one another. I could not move toward the center of the road because a vehicle was
approaching from the other direction. So,
I stopped. I got yelled at to move on. He said the excitement is over and done with.
The other vehicle just sped on by. I wander if the local police are even aware of this law.

    Agreed Fireman’s Wife!!!

I know the penalty seems outlandish but first thing’s first. Maybe South Carolinians should fight to have penalties for pedophiles increased to serve more time. Here in Georgia there has finally been some progress but I like Louisiana’s take – THE DEATH PENALTY.
