At what point do you think affordability comes into play? There are many underpriviledged people who don’t live in Orange Beach or Gulf Shores that can ill afford any type of increase. Perhaps the governor realizes this.
Alabama is usually the last one to jump on any band wagon that will cost voters
extra money during election time. This did
not pass last time, I have no confidence that the Governor will pass it this time either. Can you believe that Alfa adjusted everyone’s liability limits “in anticipation of the increase” last year?
And if you wanted to lower the limits back
down to the 20/40/10 you had to go into the agent’s office and do it. They did not ask–they just did it and the premiums went up to reflect it. I wonder how many changed theirs only to have to do it again. And I wonder if Alfa will make the changes AGAIN without notification prior to the change.
And don’t feel so glum George. Every state proclaims itself as a progressive leader for all others to follow. This is what they say when they want to go up on your taxes, impose a new tax, or to make changes that will cost the citizens of the state.
Establishing pathetic minimum limits like
25/50/25 or even 50/100/50 is an exercise in stupidity by legislators who are mostly attorneys. Societal costs now manadate minimum limits of at least a half
million. After a short while, the cost of
those limits would decrease.
How about a policy with no maximum limit?
It works in Europe so don’t beg the question about inability to do pricing.
The proposed increase is laughable.
You must do very well in the insurance business. If they were to increase the
limits to that high amount, you would
have many more driving around uninsured.
The majority of Alabama is rural. Our
average salary is below $25,000. And if
you must decide between food, medicine,
gas, rent/mortgage, and insurance–what
would decide? We have thousands of people
who live below the poverty line. And even
those that are above it, live week to week.So many already struggle to pay for the coverage that they now have.
Also, try adding a teenage driver to your policy with limits that high and see what
a whopper of a premium you have. I had
100/300/100 on my own vehicle and when my son turned 16 my premium sky rocketed. I had to lower it just to be able to keep it. I shopped around and still, it was insane.

FL requires pip and PD. BI is not required.
FL is supposed to be progressive, and a leader. Looks like we are at the wrong end of that line. Pitiful.
