Until recycling companies are held accountable for receiving illegal scrap metal, this trend will continue and increase in magnitude.

What kind of low life would stoop so low to endanger the lives of the public for scrap metal? Law enforcement should do three things to stem this problem. First, notify every salvage dealer in SC not to purchase fire hydrant brass. Second, step up random inspections of salvage dealers. Third, put out an order to shoot on sight.

The answer to what kind of low-life can be answered in a recent theft here in Iowa.

Someone broke into a vacant house and cut some pipe to cash in for $$. It wasn’t a water pipe, it was a gas line. The elderly owner of the house stopped by to check on the property. I don’t know if he was smoking or not, but the house blew up because the idiots left an open gas line in the house.

Here on the west coast, they were stealing aluminum guard rails right off the freeway! I like Dread’s third suggestion best.
