If an arsonist randomly picks a house to burn, it is arson. If an arsonist specializes in only burning places of worship, it is arson with a different motivation.
That’s another thing I don’t fully understand – “hate crimes”. Arson is arson, assault is assault, vandalism is vandalism, etc is etc. I see no need to add an extra level. If society wants to punish people more for these crimes then do so, but there’s no need to bring certain aspects of the victim into the equation.
For example – say it’s found out the person who set the mosque on fire was a white male who hated Muslims (I don’t know, this is just an example). Why should they be punished any more or any differently than an Arab Muslim setting the same fire to the same mosque? It’s still arson.
The problem REALLY is:This didn’t make headlines around the globe, EXCEPT, (I repeat)EXCEPT in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Libya, ..well you get the idea.
Then, those peeps and countries “have it out” for any (let’s say it) Christian American and will make him/her pay, perhaps with their life for such an affront
Doesn’t anyone remember Salman Rushdie; Islamic himself, he was/is on a death list when he wrote a book placing his religion in doubt
These arsonous jerks have no idea the damage they’ve caused and may yet cause

Why would arson against a religious building be a different charge? This seems stupid to me – arson is arson.
