Tornadoes must be confirmed by the National Weather Service…a tornado is a tornado – what difference does it make whether it is confirmed or not – is this for insurance purposes? And what happens when the NWS says it never happened but you have business/people damaged/hurt – are they not covered at that point???

This is akin to picking pepper out of fly s h i t. Tornado damage is picked up under the Windstorm peril so it’s a moot point from the insured’s standpoint. Maybe the acutaries or underwriters care about the categorization.

that the reason the NWS has to recognize it before it is official is for governmental purposes; such as a State governer declaring a state of emergency for the damaged area. Or perhaps just for statistical reasons.

well, why does it have to be the NWS…is not a state trooper an official of the state? are we say that he’s lying? if so, then all those speeding tickets or other tickets issued are a lie then as well….so let’s get our act together!…there is more than one official…
