When the US Gov’t sells a piece of property they are REQUIRED to remove all munitions and debris. That is part of the requirements under National Security to prevent our debris from becoming a “minefield” of information for any foreign government. Now that a few problems have arisen the developer has in his possession an assurance from the gov’t that isn’t worth the paper it is written on and the gov’t is extended sovereign immunity because of its’ mistakes. I’m not real sure any attorney is going to be interested in taking this case… If you think the Love Canal issue in New York lasted a long time (1977 – 1994) you ain’t seen nothing yet. The gov’t would be a part of this case and if there is a class action the class members must get permission to sell their homes. The market is already in a downtown…how are they going to quantify their damages? They are better off letting the area get cleaned up and take whatever assurance and compensation is offered (if any).

How do you rate propery insurance on a former bomb range? By how close it is to EOD?

So how does one “lose” an old bombing range? Also, how did the developer of the area not run across this little fact?

The developer must have been bombed when he started the project.

This makes flood and windstorm look a little more desirable

I wonder how the builders managed to move dirt and build homes on an old bomb range without at least one going BOOM! Will those who were doing the actual work in the building of these homes get back-hazard pay? Is this covered under “Builder’s risk”? I smell a law suit!

I smell a class action lawsuit. As soon as I can get on a plane and fly over there I’ll sign these folks up and my next stop will be at my Mercedes dealer. I bet I can get each homeowner in the development a free tree from the developer while I walk away with millions in cash.

Need an expert witless? I’m only a safety guy but I’m sure I can help for a cut. I’ll only charge six figures.

    Himself,
You are probably already too late. I have a feeling that at least 50 lawyers showed up before the ink dried from the printers of the press reporting it.
But if you do manage to get part of the pie, leave them a little bit more than a tree. It would cost an arm and a leg just in permits to be able to plant the darn thing in the state of Florida!
