Ky. Jury Rejects $1.4 Billion Case Involving Allstate

A jury in Lexington, Ky., ruled in favor of Allstate Insurance Co., in a lawsuit brought by a woman who challenged the insurance giant’s claims procedure.

The jury deliberated for about an hour Wednesday afternoon before rejecting the claims of Geneva Hager of Richmond. Hager filed a suit seeking $1.425 billion and accused Allstate of using delay tactics and schemes to prod injury victims into accepting lower offers for pain and suffering.

Hager’s attorney, J. Dale Golden, told jurors during closing arguments that Allstate engaged in a systematic scheme to bully soft-tissue injury victims into accepting unfair compensation for their pain and suffering.

Allstate attorney Mindy Barfield dismissed Hager’s claims in closing arguments on Wednesday, saying the case was built on greed.
