I apologize for my comment about white people. I was angry. I like and understand the comments so far, except for what I apologized and festus’ about the Duke boys. I don’t think there would be a TV-script about this matter and the Duke boys. I think it would be one-sided. We must regard it as is a serious matter. County citizens are strapped with the damage award and whatever insurance money is available. If it had gone to trial, I wonder if the jury would be all black or all white or mixed? I think I could be a fair juror. There’s too much hatred on either side…and we must do all we can to put an end to it.

Outrageous. The settlement amount is excessive. These white folks always win. They voted against the sheriff. No one can work under those circumstances anymore that the US attorneies that were fired because they were Democrats. Not in an arena that’s political. Well that’s politics for you.

    What a calamity !!!!

The settlement amounted to over $150k per claimant, before attorney fees, etc… (if there wasn’t a separate award for atty fees). This is for 2 weeks out of work? and apparent discrimination? The people of the county were robbed by the officers who grabbed the dollars, as opposed to simply seeking reinstatement and dismissal of the Sheriff (if possible). If the Sheriff wanted to “clean house”, he should have done it more subtly, like his predecessors when they gave poor performance evals., etc…

The nature of the claim puts legal fees outside of the settlement. The attorneys who prosecuted this matter will now present for a fee hearing before the judge. That will be paid in addition to the settlement dollars.

I wouldn’t want to be a resident of Clayton County, Georgia right now nor would I want to be a member of the Sheriff’s office. This is an embarassment. I would have preferred the county fight the case and lose it in court than to settle.

    Thanks Jefferson.

Nice to know that you can be as racist as anyone else.

Yes, we were brought over as slaves and mistreated as human beings. I try very hard to shake that off. I am forgiving, though not as forgetfull as I’d like to be. File that under the big “E” — for experience. But, Cliff, sing “Amazing Grace” once in a while. And, read about JOB.

Um no Jefferson YOU were not brought over here in a ship (unles you are a couple hundred years old). MAYBE your ancestors from several generations ago were brought over here on a ship BUT NOT YOU. If you’re “mistreated” now that’s almost all your fault. Try having that chip surgically removed from your shoulder and you will see how things improve. Oh and grow up.

Steve-o. Oh my goodness. Yes I am working on it regardless of on-going racism which you know exists but know nothing of. Get your head out of the sand. I believe you’d vote to repeal any Civil Rights legislation which of course worked in favor of the fired deputies. Yes, I’d have lunch with you without hatred. I wonder if you would too.
