Should this tragic loss of life been prevented by more realistic fire-fighting protocols? Let’s examine the facts. This was a warehouse full of highly combustible furniture. The fire was raging when the men arrived. There was no solid evidence that anyone else was in the building. Why didn’t they let it burn out? This is a classic example of why common sense is needed to protect responders. It’s no different than abandoning a high speed chase for a minor infraction. It simply isn’t worth it. Losing 9 men is high price to pay to try to make sure nobody is left in a blazing building.
