I think it is very unfair that we are judging what happen to this US Marshal. Forget the fact that Mr. Seckman is a law enforcement agent. What if this was your physician? or lawyer, someone who was trying to help? What if they were a teacher and was unable to smell anything in the classroom burning. This is just a person who has lost his sense of smell and taste. How sad that he does not smell the fresh air after a rainfall or good home cooking, or better a fragrant bouquet of flowers. I am sure that I would miss it…think about it…

..get in the way of a good arguement.

“Zicam Cold Remedy intranasal gel does not cause loss of smell and that claims to the contrary are scientifically unfounded and misleading. The company believes that upper respiratory infections and nasal and sinus disease are the causes of the smell dysfunctions reported by some consumers. One of the most common causes of smell disorders is the cold itself, the very condition the product is used to treat. Others are sinusitis and rhinitis, conditions which are sometimes present when the product is used. The company’s position is supported by cumulative science, and it has now been confirmed by a multi-disciplinary panel of scientists and the decisions of four separate federal judges evaluating the scientific evidence in seven cases.”

Okay did you know that zycam tested their remedy on cadaver’s…yes that is right they tested their product on the dead and of course it would not have the same affect that it has on a dead human body as it does on a living human body. Before you go and put a quote on the website or this BLOG get your facts straight and maybe you should join a more intelligent blog because obviously you know everything about EVERYTHING!!! And yes, shooting Zinc into your nasal cavity can cause the loss of smell and taste that this man is speaking of.

Whether you believe it or not too many victims of Zicam exist. All healthy people fending off a cold and after using the product, all end up with the same side effect. The problem with ZICAM and zinc based products exists. If you are a victim or simply a person who wants to save the next potential innocent Zicam customer, please see and sign our petetion, at the ipetitions web site under zicam Please pass it on to your loved ones,
    contacts and collegues.
    Thanks!

Liz, I am sorry to hear that you are one of Zicam’s latest victims. Try searching under Zicam in Google and you’ll find ten to twenty attorneys who are accepting cases, I think most now are being collected in groups but filed as private cases, rather than class action suits. We are. In the meantime, I hope you stop at our petition and place your name on it, along with your friends, family and co-workers. Search Zicam petition to do so. Good Luck.

I used Zicam nasal swabs and nasal gel as directed and have lost my sense of smell. I have hoped it would return in time but it has not.
Can anyone direct me to an attorney still handling a class action suit again Zicam?
    Thank you.

I’ll chime in on that comment. No one wants to chase a drug company out of America. But it would certainly be nice if the company that makes Zicam would stop hiding behind their “bought and sold” Scientific Advisory Board that has publish scientific information about the safety of Zicam filled with half truths that DO NOT answer most of the tough questions that are being asked. One thing they will never agree to is to instill a dose of the zinc gluconate gel directly on a living, breathing human being’s olfactory region. But Why? If it is truly safe, then it will likely not harm anyone’s olfaction, right? It’s rare for other nasal sprays to cause damage, so why won’t test their product. Taste & Smell doctors (with no connection to the Zicam folks) have publicly stated that if sniffed deeply, the gel is in deed capable of reaching the olfactory region..and that was particularly true with their original nasal applicator which they later changed to a “shower” tip when they started getting “heat” about this issue. Again, IF the product is so safe, WHY was there ANY need to change that bottle??? Zinc Gluconate, the active ingredient in Zicam, has also been used by veternarians to sterilize dogs via intra-testicular injection – in other words directly into the dogs testicles to destroy the dog’s ability to reproduce. Google “Neutersol”. You will see “zinc gluconate” associated with it as its active ingredient. If ZG can do that to a dog, then what the heck do you think it can do when it comes in contact with sensitive tissue like the olfactory region of the human nose? Do victims of Zicam want to run the company out of business??? No. They just want them to come out from behind the green curtain, stop the half-truth propaganda bit and answer the hard questions.

I have lost my sence of smell and taste after 1 use of Zicam. Within 30 minutes of taking Zican both taste and smell were gone.
I saw my doctor after three days, had a CT scan done (normal) and was put on steroids for 5 days. I have been to an acupuncturist and am seeing a ENT doctor tomorrow. I find it incredible that Zicam can conntinue to sell the product without warnings and better yet..why are they still in business after causing these awful consequences to so many people? This is just morally wrong.

Has anybody been able to gain back their sence of smell or taste? Is there something that could be done to help any of us after using the product?
