Director of Safe Kids North Carolina Kelly Ransdell received the Outstanding State Coordinator of the Year award for her work in promoting injury prevention awareness through the state’s child safety program.
Insurance Commissioner Jim Long said of Randsell, a Fuquay-Varina native, “The growth and success of SKNC these last few years is proof enough that Kelly is great at what she does. But being recognized by her peers and by the national leadership of Safe Kids in D.C. is a special honor. Knowing that she was chosen as the best coordinator out of 314 state and local Safe Kids coalitions across the county makes me even more proud of her.”
The award was announced at the Safe Kids Worldwide national convention in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 19.
Under Ransdell’s leadership, SKNC incorporated new principles of performance adopted by Safe Kids Worldwide as a model program for other coalitions to use nationwide.
During her tenure as director, nearly $100,000 in grant monies have been distributed to Safe Kids chapters across North Carolina. “Receiving this award was one of the biggest surprises of my life, and I’m truly honored and humbled by it,” said Ransdell. Prior to joining the Department of Insurance in 2000, she worked as a safety advocate for the state’s Department of Crime Control and Public Safety. Ransdell lives in Harnett County with her husband and daughter.
Safe Kids North Carolina works to reduce and prevent accidental childhood injuries in children 14 and under. SKNC is housed within the Department of Insurance’s Office of State Fire Marshal and is a member of Safe Kids Worldwide, a global network of organizations dedicated to prevention accidental injury.
