It won\’t be long before the government invades your house, too. Private clubs! What part of \”private\” doesn\’t the government understand?

The American Heart Association is an active member in the fight to limit involuntary exposure to secondhand smoke in order to protect public health. Our organization and our partners (The American Lung Association, The American Cancer Society) have no interest in enacting laws concerning smoking in private residences. Mr. Maniscalco and your readers should know that in model smoking ordinance language, exemptions for privates residences and bona fide private clubs are standard. Private clubs are defined in state and federal tax law codes and can not be simply \”sham\” clubs to avoid complying with the law.

The overwhelming majority (76%)of South Carolinians do not smoke. If simple courtesy can not govern, then the rule of law must.
