$15 large – wonder how much the plaintiff\’s attorney got for this one. -and shame on the jury who are caving in to the concept that someone has to pay no matter who is truly at fault…

\”In closing arguments Saturday, Ford attorney Elbert Dorn told the jurors the case is to be determined on facts and the law, not on emotions and sympathy.\”

Too bad the jury didn\’t listen to that part.

Joe and Ray, what makes you think the jury did not consider the facts? The settlement given to the paraplegic (after lawyers fees) will probably be used up solely on the woman\’s care and medical expenses. She is a very young woman and will need to be cared for all of her life. How do you know Ford\’s attorneys were telling the truth and not the injured woman? Because corporations always tell the truth?
If the car Ford made is defective and a woman is injured and becomes a paraplegic for the rest of her life, why shouldn\’t Ford pay? What if the accident happened to you? Would you say, \”oh I don\’t want to be greedy, I will just go on welfare or bleed my family dry to care for me the rest of my life; since Ford is such a wonderful corporate entity, I won\’t make them pay.\”
Where does the \”greed\” come in? If you mean the attorneys, rather than the victim, true, they will take some of the settlement (33% is customary) but the victim will have more money for her care than she would if she hadn\’t sued.
Maybe you wouldn\’t buy into the \”blame the victim\” syndrome if you or one of your loved ones was the victim.

I think that fact that the article states seat belts were defective and that argument was thrown out so then it became the \”speed control system\’s fault\”.

Given the fact that media has not been covering \”out of control explorers\” and that no recall has been issed on this vehicle for speed sensor issues many of us, at first glance, may have thought that the faulty speed control was the driver and not the vehicle.

There is no free lunch. As consumers we all pay because an auto mfg has to pay for someone\’s incompetent operation of a vehicle.
