    That\’s only part of the problem. The other HALF of the problem is no insurance, no license drivers. The fine for no insurance is less then insurance in Fla.
    Make driving without a license and/or insurance a felony as well. Stop this pick them up 10 or 12 times after 3 or 4 accidents before they finally do 30 days in lock up. They go to jail for 10 years IF they kill someone. Why does it have to come to that?

    I don\’t necessarily disagree with Dawn but I\’ll suggest some additional options:
    (1) Add a penalty impounding the vehicle being driven w/o insurance;
    (2) Increase both BI and PD minimum limits (neither of which reflect today\’s injury or vehicle costs); and
    (3) Set a corresponding increase in the minimum limit of the optional UMBI coverage (take responsibility for protecting yourself and your family).

    There\’s also a school of thought for getting rid of mandatory insurance and permitting those who choose to buy liability insurance the option of buying UM in an amount not limited by the amount of liability insurance. Of course in a high fraud environment like Florida that would probably just increase the number of staged \”phantom\” driver accidents.

    Anyone else want to take a turn on the soapbox?

    Very good suggestions, but I\’m still shocked that the state of FL still allows people to rej BI. That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard!
