\”For the average homeowner with $1,000 in premium.\”
Where did this \”average\” come from? I don\’t know any homeowner paying less than $3000 for homeowner\’s insurance.

\”For me this was really a Band-Aid over a major problem and was an inadequate response,\” [Rod] Smith said. Is this guy the only one paying attention?

Absolutely correct. They need to stop the price fixing with the HO carriers in FL, and allow the supply to increase. Pouring more money into Citizens is certainly not the answer. The comany is simply awful. If rate relief were granted, FL could rid itself of Citizens, which would be a blessing for all.

It is time for the Insurance Department to let the companies charge adequate fees to provide insurance in Florida. If they had done this years ago Citizens would be only a memory.

State government should not be involved in businesses they know nothing about. If state government would simply allow insurance companies to provide coverage at premium levels that support losses, the poor folks in Florida that do no live on the coast would not be subsidizing their rich brethren in the form of a $1 billion tax refund. If you live on the coast, there is a price to pay.

There should be an immediate move to impeach any elected Florida official that votes for this $1 billion bailout.

If the rates were adequate, there would be no Citizens, and no Citizens surcharges, and no class warfare politics.

This is clearly nothing more than politics.
I think it would be more benificial to make the public aware of the real problem. Most consumers keep hearing the same thing, Insurance rates must go up, we must raise insurance rates, etc, etc. We need to let consumers know that if admitted markets are not allowed to raise rates a little, ok maybe more than a little, they will be stuck with Citizens at 2 to 3 times what they are paying now with a solvent carrier. I don\’t know anyone that would not want a company to increase 30% if the alternative was 230% an an insolvent company protecting you. This is no longer an issue of just how much profit a company can make, but can they continue to even stay in business. There is no such thing as a loss leader for insurance companies. We are sick of assessments, we are sick of political pandering, we are sick of Citizens, and of course we are sick of wind, but we need to protect ourselves against it.
