Fla. ‘Fly-In’ Features ‘Issues Briefings,’ House Insurance Committee Chair

Legislative topics of major concern to Florida’s insurance industry from property insurance to joint and several repeal tort reform will be discussed by Skip Long, chairman of the Florida Independent Insurance Agents Legislative Council, during the opening session of the Florida Independent Insurance Agents 2006 March 29-30 Legislative Fly-In.

Long will kick off the event on Wednesday afternoon moderating a FAIA Issues Briefing, which will prepare members for March 30 visits with their legislators. A second briefing will feature Joel Blackwell, “The Grassroots Guy,” who will discuss grassroots lobbying.

During the “issues briefing” the following topics will be discussed:

Scott Johnson, FAIA EVP: Property Insurance; and Consumer Choice;

Laura Pearce, director of Government Affairs: Certificates of Insurance; and PIP auto No-Fault;

Kyle Ulrich, grassroots/PAC coordinator: CAT Fund; Sinkhole Insurance; and Pre-insurance Inspection; and

Pearce: PEO’s; and Tort Reform/Joint and Several Repeal.

Wednesday evening, FAIA will sponsor a pig roast, with buses departing at 6:30 p.m. and returning at 9:30 p.m.

March 30 there will be a PAC and Grassroots breakfast, featuring Ulrich, and Tom Cotton, InsurPac Coordinator. The guest speaker will be Rep. Dennis Ross, D-63-R, chairman of the Florida House Insurance Committee. The breakfast will be followed by a trip to the state capitol where the group will meet with their representatives.
