FEMA Offers Information to Property Owners to Makes Homes, Businesses Safer from Disasters

The Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is reaching out, at select Mississippi Lowe’s stores, to those rebuilding following Hurricane Katrina.

FEMA mitigation representatives will explain techniques to rebuild homes, as well as private and commercial structures, safer and stronger.

Customers will have a chance to view options such as the continuous load path model, which demonstrates how a structure can be tied from the roof to the foundation. Every joint is reinforced and linked in this process, making the structure stronger, which is particularly effective against wind damage.

FEMA representatives will be in stores from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., every day except Tuesdays. The Mitigation Home Improvement Outreach program will run until Dec. 11, 2005.
