    …collected by the state and administered by the state. Tourists would be contributors to the recovery with their payment of the sales tax and all Floridians would be helping out their state in the recovery effort. Why is it that Florida should shift the burden to the Federal government and that tax base? I don\’t disagree with a tax-deferred catastrophic savings plan however it should be a situation where if the funds are not used they are converted to a state administered catastrophic fund and then be tax deductible in some format.

    Floridians enjoy no state income tax. Perhaps that is a subject that should be put on the table in order to create a catastrophe fund. That would certainly be unpopular and there is a campaign underway thus that subject would be \”off-limits\” and if pursued, catastrophic to the candidate who dared to propose it to voters.
