Ala. Disaster Aid Deadline One Month Away

August 5, 2005

Alabama’s disaster victims have 30 days remaining in which to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for state and federal assistance in recovering from damage suffered during Hurricane Dennis. The application deadline is Thursday, Sept. 8.

“Any resident of a declared county who suffered uninsured losses should register to ensure the possibility of assistance,” said Michael Bolch, the official in charge of federal recovery operations. “Those who plan to register, but have delayed, need be alert to the deadline.”

The deadline to register for aid to individuals and families applies to the disaster declaration signed by President Bush, and pertains to Mobile, Baldwin and Escambia counties. Registration does not guarantee that applicants will receive assistance, Bolch emphasized, but residents are encouraged to apply if they sustained any disaster related damages due to Hurricane Dennis.

It takes only a few minutes to register by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). The number for those with speech or hearing impairment is 1-800-462-7585. Registration can also be completed on-line at http://www.fema.gov. Registration lines are open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., 7 days a week until further notice.

While registrations cannot be accepted after Sept. 8, FEMA will continue to process all applications received before the deadline.
