Miss. Theft Summit Looks for Solutions

The first FBI/LEEDA-NER Regional Equipment Theft Summit was hosted recently by the Hinds County Sheriff and the Mississippi Department of Agriculture & Commerce in the Sparkman Auditorium at the Agriculture and Forestry Museum in Jackson, Miss.

Topics covered during the summit included: an overview of the equipment theft problem; a discussion of the various solutions to equipment theft and equipment identification training for law enforcement attendees. Local equipment dealers brought in a variety of machines for the ‘hands-on’ equipment ID training. Speakers during the day came from FBI/LEEDA, the National Equipment Register, LoJack, The Equipment Lock Company, Qualcomm, Dewalt and Equipment World Magazine.

The 120-plus attendees were primarily law enforcement officers but also included fleet managers, dealers and insurers.

The next Summit is being hosted by the Sheriff of San Bernardino County, California on July 13. Almost half of the places have already been taken so interested parties should register before the cut-off date of July 5. There is no cost for attendees.

Further Summits in 2005 are planned for Florida and Texas.
