Attorney General Henry McMaster announced today in Columbia, S.C. that nine individuals pleaded guilty between Oct. 21, 2004 and Jan. 13, 2005 to 16 counts of Presenting False Claims for Payment, a felony violation of ยง38-55-170 of the Code of Laws, and punishable by up to five years imprisonment and/or a fine up to the discretion of the court.
Between June 15, 1997 and Oct. 28, 1998, the individuals arranged false automobile wrecks with pre-determined vehicles and then submitted fraudulent claims to insurance companies. The individuals listed below participated in an organized effort to defraud insurance companies.
Crystal Glover, 25, of 1518 Capernaum Road in Bamberg, pleaded guilty to one count of Presenting False Claims for Payment, and was sentenced to three years imprisonment, suspended to three years probation, 40 hours community service and ordered to pay $2,700 in restitution to S.C. Farm Bureau Insurance.
Danny Glover, 43, of Route 2 Box 141-E in Denmark, pleaded guilty to four counts of Presenting False Claims for Payment, and was sentenced to four years imprisonment, suspended to four years probation, 300 hours community service, and ordered to pay restitution of $300 to State Farm Insurance and $1,800 to S.C. Farm Bureau Insurance.
Debra Glover, 43, of Route 2 Box 141-E in Denmark, pleaded guilty to two counts of Presenting False Claims for Payment, and was sentenced to three years imprisonment, suspended to three years probation, 80 hours community service, and ordered to pay restitution of $500 to State Farm Insurance and $1,287 to Unison Insurance.
Michael Glover, 28, of P.O. Box 1105 in Bamberg, pleaded guilty to one count of Presenting False Claims for Payment, and was sentenced to three years imprisonment, suspended to three years probation and 100 hours community service.
Robert Glover, Jr., 32, of Route 3 Box 1944 in Bamberg, pleaded guilty to one count of Presenting False Claims for Payment, and was sentenced to three years imprisonment, suspended to five years probation, 40 hours community service, and ordered to pay restitution of $2,594.39 to Unison Insurance.
Robert Glover, Sr., 53, of P.O. Box 532 in Bamberg, pleaded guilty to three counts of Presenting False Claims for Payment, and was sentenced to five years imprisonment, suspended to five years probation, and ordered to pay restitution of $7,074.39 to Unison Insurance and $2,150 to Auto Owners Insurance.
Evelyn Goolsby, 28, of P.O. Box 243 in Bamberg, pleaded guilty to one count of Presenting False Claims for Payment, and was sentenced to 30 days imprisonment, suspended to five years probation, and ordered to pay restitution of $3,804.44 to Unison Insurance.
Vivian Mitchell, 23, of 206 Pine Street in Bamberg, pleaded guilty to one count of Presenting False Claims for Payment, and was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, suspended to one year probation and 30 hours community service.
Alfred Young, 30, of 160 Kelly’s Cove in Cordova, pleaded guilty to two counts of Presenting False Claims for Payment, and was sentenced to one year imprisonment, suspended to five years probation, and ordered to pay restitution of $1,385 to S.C. Farm Bureau Insurance and $2,500 to State Farm Insurance.
The cases were investigated by the State Law Enforcement Division and prosecuted by the Insurance Fraud Division of the Attorney General’s Office.
