Mr. Long, the NC Insurance Commissioner, has used the his office to mislead insurance consumers and voters in North Carolina. For the past sixteen years Mr. Long with Judge Stephens, Wake County, coordinated the refunds to go out during September and October of his election years. Not all auto insurance clients will receive a refund. The majority of the money will be refunded to the worst drivers. The fact is the NC Reinsurance Facility overcharged the insurance carriers for ceded liability policies. Mr. Long, also, has failed to mention the majority of carriers including Nationwide and State Farm are having customers to sign a Consent Rate forms on their Comprehensive and Collision coverage. Thus, the auto insurance consumer is paying more than the filed rates by the NC Rate Bureau. Mr. Long has been the Commissioner for 20 years. He is a seasoned politician. I wish the news media understood insurance enough to ask Mr. Long the tough questions. An example could be “Why have you failed to enforce Federal Redlining Laws on Homwowner carriers?” Or, “Why has your department allowed the practice of “death spiral health insurance?” Maybe, “Why has your department not pursued National carriers from using unlicensed persons for quoting and writing insurance?” Surely, the withholding of fire taxes from auto and homeowner policies from the local fire departments should stir interest. Again, during September and October of election year, Mr. Long is distributing these funds as NCDOI “grants”.
