MASA Unveils New Independent Miss. Salvage Auction

August 6, 2004

Midway Auto Salvage Auctions (MASA), an independent salvage auction company established in 1999 and headquartered in Grenada , Mississippi, announced its latest expansion, the acquisition of a 65-acre site located in south Jackson , the state’s most heavily populated region.

“Recent consolidation in Central Mississippi has denied the insurance industry the option of working with an independent salvage auction,” said company president Barry Eggers. “We believe that independent salvage auctions bring the greatest level of competition and service to bear in the marketplace. The feedback and encouragement we have received from our insurance clients and our buying customers have been tremendous. We are thrilled by this opportunity to fill the void that has been created in Central and Southern Mississippi.”

MASA has already broken ground on the new property and expects to begin operation shortly after Labor Day. The company will conduct operations out of temporary modular office buildings during the design and construction phase of the new facility.

The new structures will reportedly be spacious, housing MASA’s operations and providing offices for onsite claims teams and vehicle inspection centers.

“The site consists of two adjacent tracts,” said David Burnett, MASA general manager. “We will develop the 40-acre tract initially for normal operations and hold the other 25 acres in reserve to handle overflow from catastrophe situations.

“The location of the site is ideal. Not only are we just minutes from downtown, the site has immediate access to Interstate 55 and close proximity to Highway 49, the major corridor to the Hattiesburg area. The new branch extends our reach dramatically, allowing us to offer statewide coverage to those insurers who prefer to work with a single salvage vendor.”

Eggers, founder and president of MASA, has more than 33 years in the industry. Burnett, previously with Source One Solutions, joined MASA in 2000. He began his career in auto claims, working for Nationwide Insurance for nearly a decade.
