Kentucky Attorney General Greg Stumbo announced the indictment of Monticello Dentist Raleigh Andrews, 44, on multiple charges of Medicaid fraud.
The four count felony indictment was handed down by a Wayne County Grand Jury on Tuesday, July 20, charging Andrews with a pattern of submitting fraudulent claims to the state Medicaid program.
Stumbo’s Medicaid Fraud and Abuse Control Division sought the indictment that alleges Andrews devised a scheme to bill the state for services for which he had already been paid, for services never performed, for services not medically necessary and in many cases for less complex services than those billed. The indictment charges that the crimes began in March of 1997 and continued through April of 2003 and that Andrews defrauded the Kentucky Medicaid Program of as much as $200,000 or more.
Andrews was arrested and was in jail in Wayne County on a $200,000 bond awaiting trial. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison and fines and penalties up to $600,000.
