Kentucky Attorney General Greg Stumbo announced the indictment of Danville orthodontist Daniel Tumey on multiple charges of Medicaid fraud.
The four count felony indictment was handed down by a Franklin County Grand Jury Wednesday, July 7, charging Tumey with a nearly decade-long pattern of submitting fraudulent claims to the state Medicaid program.
Stumbo’s Medicaid Fraud and Abuse Control Division sought the indictment that alleges Tumey devised a scheme to bill the state for services for which he had already been paid, or in some cases for services he never performed. The indictment charges that the crimes began in January of 1995 and continued through October 2001.
If convicted, Tumey faces up to 20 years in prison.
