Former N.C. Agent Arrested, Charged with Embezzlement

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Jim Long announced that Adam Phillip Carrier, formerly of Raleigh but now of Wrightsville Beach, was arrested on five charges of embezzlement by an insurance agent recently. Carrier, 34, was arrested by the Wrightsville Beach Police Department at his apartment on N. Lumina Avenue.

The charges stem from an investigation by the North Carolina Department of Insurance (NCDOI) into allegations that Carrier failed to remit premium payments meant to purchase insurance for his clients. NCDOI investigators allege that Carrier embezzled nearly $8,000 on five separate occasions, primarily targeting the Latino community in and around Raleigh. Carrier, who surrendered his agent license last October, previously operated an agency on St. Mary’s Street in downtown Raleigh.

Latino media in the Raleigh area and anyone who employs or works with Latinos who may have done business with Carrier are encouraged to spread the word about the Department’s case.

“Our investigators would like to hear from anyone else who may have been defrauded by the Carrier Insurance Agency on St. Mary’s Street,” said Long. “We can arrange for Spanish interpreters to assist you and we will not inquire as to your citizenship status.”
