Here is yet another group of doctors who want jury awards for malpractice limited to make malpractice insurance more affordable. High jury awards may be one factor that raises the cost of inurance but it is not the only thing that can be controlled.

If Doctors for Medical Liability Reform are serious about reducing the cost of malpractice insurance, they need to address the problem of disciplinig and suspnding the licenses of bad doctors.

North Carolina has some form of medical board. But, like most other state medical boards, they greatly lack the desire/ability to investigate doctors who rip off patients and insurance companies as well as those doctors who are just plain incompetent. A lot of patient complaints are never looked into.

Doctors have to take a greater responsibility for policing their ranks. The system needs to be a hundredfold more responsive. Then, patients will be more likely to use the complaint process instead of suing.
