Federal Officer Charged With Torching Truck in Fla. Scam

A Gulf County, Florida man who happens to be a federal law enforcement officer, was arrested for setting his 1999 Chevrolet Z71 truck allegedly in order to collect insurance money.

According to the Florida Department of Financial Services, Robert Gay, an officer with the Department of Interior, Federal Fish and Wildlife, was charged with arson and burning to defraud. The investigation was conducted by the Division of State Fire Marshal’s Bureau of Fire and Arson Investigations, Port St. Joe Police Department, Gulf County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Interior. Gay was booked into the Gulf County Jail.

Investigators said Gay set his truck on fire while it was parked at his residence to collect the insurance proceeds. The damage to the vehicle was estimated at $16,000. No one was injured.
