Overweight trucks are a problem in many states. They present a huge safety issue for all drivers on our highways. In addition to the costs in injuries and lives, overweight trucks create additional fuel and infrastructure costs. My state, Alabama, also does a very poor job policing overweight trucks. Like Oklahoma, it’s a huge problem on our major highways and Interstates. Moreover, Alabama has a huge logging industry. Our rural roads in some counties are crowded with overweight log trucks. I would welcome a greater safety emphasis on reducing truck weight violations.
