Oh good lord, the “robot” is a tool. A gun is a tool, a shovel is a tool, a kitchen frying pan is a tool…. Ultimately can do good or harm. As humans we make decisions. Question the decision but maybe lay off the rhetoric regarding the “tool”? Without the human the tool is inert.
I cannot believe there is even a conversation of an ethical dilemma because a robotic was used to take out the threat versus a police sharpshooter on a roof top. What is the difference? The question of some kind of alleged slippery slope i.e. too quick to use this solution versus negotiation is absurd. Every day the police have to draw the line where attempted or continued negotiation is not only fruitless but might endanger more lives, so a “shoot’ order is issued. If killing the perp to prevent more harm is acceptable using a policeman, why not a robot?
Its not over yet. I heard hand-wringing on the radio today because the police had explosives and detonators on hand. It makes you wonder what people think the bomb squad does to dispose of bombs — sprinkle them with fairy dust?
Perhaps the police should start using robots for all confrontations. If the robot has to shoot a black thug, what will Al Sharpton and the Black Lives Matter say then? Racist robot?

Dead is dead … does it really matter how it’s done?
I think the DPD SWAT team has a genius working for it.
