Action on Hold in Texas Veterans Parade Crash Trial

A West Texas judge has postponed further action in the trial of a lawsuit arising from a collision between a freight train and a veterans’ parade float that killed four vets.

State District Judge James Rush granted an extension to one of the parties to file briefs in the case. A court aide declined to say how long an extension was given or who asked for it.

Rush had said Friday that Union Pacific Railroad had asked for an immediate ruling in its favor and that attorneys for the 17 plaintiffs had been expected to file a response Monday.

The 2012 crash killed four veterans and injured about a dozen. Twenty-six people reached a confidential settlement this month with Union Pacific.
