Shreveport Fire Department Plans to Give Away Smoke Alarms

The Shreveport Fire Department and area volunteers are taking fire safety to the streets to help reduce fire-related injuries and deaths.

On Saturday, KTBS-TV reports participants will canvass the streets of the Cedar Grove, La., neighborhood to install smoke alarms and distribute fire safety literature.

The campaign will begin at 8 a.m. near the site of the city’s most recent fire deaths, Southern Avenue at East 68th Street.

The department recently received a donation of $12,500 from the Caddo Parish Commission to purchase more than 1,200 10-year lithium battery powered smoke alarms. The department’s goal is install more than 300 of the devices in the target community.
