Louisiana City Sees 5 Vacant House Fires in a Week

June 17, 2014

Lafayette, La., fire officials say at least five vacant houses have been set afire in one week. They’re investigating a sixth house fire.

They say two vacant houses were torched within 12 minutes of each other early Sunday.

Another three fires were set between 9:30 p.m. Wednesday and early Friday morning, within a two-mile radius.

Fire Chief Robert Benoit said Friday that investigators had not determined the cause of one of two fires that broke out early Thursday in that same area.

Spokesman Alton Trahan says investigators don’t know whether any of the fires are related.

Fire officials are asking anyone with information about any of the fires to call CrimeStoppers.
