Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John D. Doak is congratulating the Haw Creek Fire Department in LeFlore County for significantly improving its Public Protection Classification (PPC) from Class 9 to Class 6 effective June 1.
“PPC upgrades are exactly why we established our Insurance Services Office (ISO) program,” said Doak. “By working with fire departments and helping communities identify improvements to their fire protection, they can receive better ISO ratings and potentially save consumers money on their homeowners insurance premiums.”
ISO ratings are determined by the evaluation of the fire department, fire alarm and communication systems and the water supply system. The Oklahoma Insurance Department’s (OID) ISO Coordinators work with communities and fire departments to prepare for and receive an ISO review. ISO reviews can lower home insurance rates, increase the safety of the community, improve fire department capabilities, identify areas for improvement and promote economic development.
“I am very happy that we have been able to repay the trust that the community has placed in our fire department,” said Haw Creek Fire Department Chief Mark Dedmon. “We have already heard from one resident whose insurance was up for renewal and he had a significant savings due to the change in class code.”
“This department has achieved so much in less than three years,” said Jim Arnold, OID ISO Field Representative. “By working with the other area departments and establishing a hauled water program, they were able to obtain a Class 6 rating, which places them in a better position than many small and medium-size towns.”
