May 28, 2014

The West school district is suing its insurer, saying the two sides are $23 million apart on the costs of rebuilding buildings after last year’s devastating Texas plant explosion.

The Waco Tribune-Herald reports that the West schools filed their lawsuit Tuesday in Waco district court.

The lawsuit names the Texas Association of Public Educators and two insurance companies.

West is building a new high school and middle school to replace buildings destroyed by last year’s fertilizer plant explosion, which killed 15 people and injured more than 200.

Superintendent Marty Crawford said the district claimed $53 million in losses, but the insurers are only offering $30 million.

An official with the association of public educators did not immediately return a phone message.
