Much of West Texas faces extreme wildfire danger because of gusty winds and plummeting humidity.
The National Weather Service has issued a “red flag warning” for the Permian Basin and much of the Trans-Pecos region of West Texas. Forecasters explain that southwesterly winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 30 mph and humidity of 8 to 15 percent will bring explosive wildfire potential to the region. In the Guadalupe Mounts, winds could gust as high as 65 mph.
