Houston-Area Storms Cut Power for Thousands

July 16, 2013

Thousands of homes and businesses in Texas have lost power as rainstorms moved through the state and left one person slightly hurt.

Officials say bad weather in the Houston area on Sunday night brought down part of the awning at a gas station and left about 9,100 CenterPoint Energy customers without power. Only about 200 customers were still without electricity Monday.

A gas station in Cypress suffered damage when strong winds toppled part of the awning. Authorities say one female customer was transported to a hospital to be checked for minor injuries.

Oncor in Dallas reported nearly 3,000 electrical outages Monday morning following rainstorms.

Austin Energy had about 1,000 weather-related outages mainly in the south part of Austin.
