Texas Part of Roadcheck for Commercial Vehicles

The Texas Department of Public Safety will take part in a nationwide commercial vehicle inspection program known as Roadcheck 2013.

DPS troopers, inspectors and investigators will join other law enforcement groups in the increased safety effort Tuesday through Thursday.

Officers will be on the lookout for 18-wheelers and buses with serious equipment violations and drivers not in compliance with state and federal rules.

DPS and other Texas agencies last year inspected more than 8,000 commercial vehicles during Roadcheck. Texas officials found that 21 percent of the vehicles had serious violations that required the truck or bus be taken out of service for repairs.

Inspectors took 243 drivers off Texas roads for violations including not properly tracking their operating hours and not having the proper type of commercial license.
