Louisiana City Council May Boost Fire Truck Fleet

April 16, 2013

The Zachary City Council will seek Louisiana’s State Bond Commission approval to finance the purchase of a pumper-ladder fire truck, although council members aren’t sure how its cost ultimately will, be covered.

Fire Chief Danny Kimble said Zachary has an opportunity to buy a slightly used fire truck for $685,000.

The Advocate reports the truck is a demonstration model, but the manufacturer will provide a new-truck warranty, Kimble said.

To maintain its fire insurance rating, Kimble said, the city must add a ladder truck to its fleet when it has five buildings with three stories or more.

He said the city has four, and there is a question of whether the design of the new Zachary High School gymnasium makes it technically a fifth three-story structure.
