Police say a Central Texas woman accused of setting her garage on fire after lying about a masked man trying to attack her remains too badly injured to be arrested.
The Waco Tribune-Herald reports that Jennifer Matthews first told authorities she was set on fire in March 2010 by an unknown man who tried to kidnap and kill her. About 80 percent of Matthews’ body was burned in the fire.
But city police say surveillance video at a local convenience store shows Matthews buying gasoline and a container shortly before the fire.
She would later confess to starting the fire.
Authorities tell the newspaper that two years later, Matthews continues to undergo surgeries and procedures to recover from her injuries.
She could not be reached for comment.
