Arkansas Cemetery Hit Again by Vandalism

Authorities say a historic cemetery in Texarkana, Ark., has been hit by vandals three times in the past three months.

The State Line Cemetery Association says someone last week knocked down a two-ton, marble monument depicting a small child. Association president Emily Tarr says vandals also hit on Sept. 7 and in June.

Tarr says the monument of the child dates to 1896 and is “iconic” for the cemetery, located on the Arkansas side of State Line Avenue.

Tarr tells the Texarkana Gazette that about $5,000 to $10,000 of damage has been inflicted on the cemetery so far this year. Tarr says whoever damaged the monuments and gravestones used a heavy tool – perhaps a sledgehammer – to cause such damage.

Texarkana police say no arrests have been made.
