Storm Preceded Damage at Arkansas Music Pavilion

July 11, 2012

Arkansas Music Pavilion officials are awaiting word on how much it will cost to repair damage to the outdoor concert venue.

Officials say a storm accompanied by strong winds blew through Fayetteville before the tent-like structure collapsed on Saturday. Chairs were smashed, portable toilets were overturned and a chain-link fence around the pavilion was wrecked at the Washington County Fairgrounds.

Pavilion spokeswoman Jill Holcomb told the Northwest Arkansas Times Monday she believes the tent around the pavilion topped about 4 p.m., but no one was around to see what happened.

The National Weather Service in Tulsa had no specific data on wind speeds in Fayetteville, but forecasters say there were reports of damage consistent with wind speeds of about 60 mph.

Insurance adjusters have visited the site.
