The fact is the police made a horrible mistake and the lack of knowledge has now left two families without justice and now the D.A has made the choice not to go forward with another trial and have put other womens lives in danger, history is doomed to repeat in self.
It shows how the media can convince people and influence them, now all we have to do is wait until he feels safe and believes no one is looking(Gary Dunn) will hurt someone else and this time the guilty will be those who failed to do their job! My heart and prayers go out to her family and her boyfriend who obviously loved her and it was grief the police failed to recognize, maybe they never lost anyone or just wanted to close the case to look good in the media eyes.

We are all forgetting in this that the beautiful innocent Ms. Dirksmeyer was brutally murdered. What a shame! Everyone that corrupted that case so as to let a guilty piece of garbage walk because the police couldn’t make up their mind before charging someone and trying them without real evidence. Then they think it isn’t going to matter when they try a new person for the crime? Gimmee a break! Those cops need to go to jail themselves if for nothing else but stupidity. The Dirksmeyer family are the losers in all this, don’t forget that.

I am a frequent viewer of the ID Channel and as the years and seasons go by I often find myself catching a rerun of the horrid murder of Nona Dirksmeyer. To me the entire case clarifies why small town police forces that handle lass than 60 murders a year should be forced to have the over site of the Arkansas Bureau of Investigation (if one exits) the State police or the FBI. I absolutely believe that Dunn committed the murder and is an extremely evil man. Not only has he raped before, he more likely than not murdered Ms. Dirksmeyer and was content to watch another man go away to prison for the rest of his life. The incompetence of the Russelville Police force is shocking, but I am disappointed in the second jury too. I cannot sit in judgement of them because I have yet to sit in as a juror on a case that could result in the imprisonment of another for life. It also bugs me that that The RPD and the Prosecutor handling this case decided not to pursue a third trial. More Grievance than this, is if the RPD have just deemed this as a cold case and washed their hands of it. If this is true, then this is just plain wrong. A young girl was horridly murdered, her family will never have closure as long as the murderer remains free. This case ought to have somebody spending at least 2 days every month investigating it. It would be nice if the RPD could package up this case a send it to the organization that has some of the most brilliant criminologists and detectives in the United States. They usually randomly selected 2 or 3 cases during their annual convention and have been known to accomplish everything from turning up new clues to actually solving murder cases. I would think Dirksmeyer family and the memory of Nona deserves this much

I am watching this on Investigation Discovery as I post. I have seen this before, and I am no less angered by the rush to judgment without an investigation by that police department than I was the first time I saw this story. That poor girl was brutally murdered and there needed to be justice done on her behalf. However, the tunnel vision and laziness of those officers was inexcusable. Law enforcement is absolutely necessary, but police brutality is unacceptable regardless of whether it’s in the form of physical violence or attempts to force a false confession. They weren’t searching for the truth but were trying to shoehorn facts into their preconceived opinions about this young man’s guilt. When atrocities like this occur, actual perpetrators of crime are free to commit even more crimes.

Unfortunately, there seems to an assumption throughout law enforcement that the boyfriend or husband is always the killer. With that assumption guiding an investigation, other possibilities get ignored when the case is fresh, and it is way too easy to find or make up “facts” to support motive. Most relationships will have instances of jealousy and arguments over one thing or another, and it appears from the statistics that over half will have infidelity involved. This rush to judgment blinding going after the spouse or boyfriend will not stop until juries consistently demand more evidence than mere speculation by the DA coupled with the attitude that someone has to pay for the crime. Under the legal theory of our justice system, no one should pay unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. It is less offensive for a guilty person to remain free than for an innocent person to rot in jail. I have no doubt there are many innocent spouses sitting in jail today because juries bought the argument that it had to be the spouse and required no physical evidence at all. It’s quite frightening, actually, because rest assured that if your wife is killed, it appears law enforcement will try to use every way possible to convict you, including informant testimony by convicts who get better deals for saying you confessed to the killing.

My aunt lived 3 doors down from Nona. We were talking about what happened the other night, how she came home from work to find the townhouses blocked off and police surrounding the area. She fully believes that Kevin Jones (nonas boyfriend) killed her, since supposedly Nona and Jones were about to go to a party, he gets worried because she isnt answering and makes a detour to get his mother. Now idk about anybody else but all the men I know would be kicking down doors at the first sign of trouble if they suspected their girl was in danger. Not to mention how he wallowed in her body contaminating the evidence, and getting blood and gore all over himself, obviously making a show out of it. The fact that he got his mother though, what guy gets his mother when going to pick up his girlfriend for a party worried or not. Idk what yall think but Jones is pretty suspicious if you ask me.

Gary Dunn, a neighbor of Nona whose DNA is in the condom in Nona’s room, was arrested in 2018 AGAIN (had other charges before Nona’s murder) for exposing himself and trying to kidnap a woman (there were actually two women who he attempted to kidnap).

Kevin Jones was never accused of anything before Nona’s murder or after.
