A Baxter County district court judge has given a former Berryville school bus driver the option of performing community service instead of doing jail time for a 2010 crash that injured 11 passengers.
Judge Van Gearhart on Friday found Warren Rainwater guilty of driving while intoxicated and other charges and sentenced him to 10 days in jail.
Rainwater was accused of being under the influence of prescription medication when he crashed the bus near Pyatt on Oct. 1, 2010. Nine students and two teachers were hurt when the bus left U.S. Highway 62, rolled down a ravine and landed on its side.
According to the Northwest Arkansas Times, a trooper said Rainwater appeared to be incapacitated. But defense attorney Phillip Moon said Rainwater’s concussion could have caused his condition.
