Arkansas to Get $1M to Repair Storm Damage to Roads

November 30, 2011

Arkansas members of the U.S. House and Senate say the state will get a $1 million grant to repair and rebuild federal highways and roads that were damaged by severe storms, flooding and tornadoes this past spring.

U.S. Sens. Mark Pryor and John Boozman, and U.S. Reps. Rick Crawford, Tim Griffin, Steve Womack and Mike Ross announced Monday the U.S. Department of Transportation funding will go to the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department.

Boozman says despite state and local efforts to clean up and rebuild, the storms caused damage beyond local governments’ abilities to respond.

The Department of Transportation says the grant will be used to restore traffic, minimize the extent of storm damage and restore highways to their pre-disaster condition.
