Louisiana to Get Mine Safety Training Money

Louisiana is getting a share of federal money for safety training to miners.

The Labor Department said Wednesday that it has allocated just over $81,000 to the state. It comes from a national pool of $8.4 million.

The grants cover training and retraining of miners working in all types of mines – including those working at the surface and underground. The state will be required to tailor the program to needs of its mines and miners.

States began getting the safety training money in 1971.
