Man Arrested in Louisiana Police Tire Slashings

A 49-year-old man remains jailed in lieu of $48,000 bond after being accused of slashing the tires of dozens of patrol cars parked outside the Thibodaux Police Department headquarters.

The Daily Comet reports that Glenn Watkins was arrested Thursday and booked with 48 counts of simple criminal damage to property.

In a news release, Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre said the motive remains unclear, the investigation is continuing, and investigators haven’t ruled out the possibility that others were involved.

Police have said that someone slashed 34 tires on new Chevrolet Tahoes before dawn May 5, and 20 police car tires on June 3, for more than $7,000 total damage.

Thibodaux Police Chief Scott Silverii and Mayor Tommy Eschete asked the sheriff’s office to lead the investigation.
