Magnitude 4.7 Earthquake Recorded in Arkansas

Four earthquakes were recorded near Greenbrier in central Arkansas on Feb. 27 – including one with a preliminary magnitude of 4.7 that was reported felt in four other states.

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded the 4.7 quake at 11 p.m. Sunday about four miles northeast of Greenbrier – about 35 miles north of Little Rock. Residents across Arkansas and in Oklahoma, Missouri, Tennessee and Mississippi reported on the USGS website that they felt the quake.

Greenbrier police dispatcher Jessica Bradford says no injuries or serious damage is reported.

The USGS also recorded in the same area a preliminary magnitude 3.8 quake at 11:18 p.m. and a preliminary 3.6 magnitude quake was recorded at 2:46 a.m. Monday. The fourth earthquake is a preliminary magnitude 3.2 and was recorded at 7:06 a.m.

Hundreds of earthquakes have been recorded in Arkansas in recent months.
